Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
WDB 9036622R772318
This tells a lot about the vehicle.
THIS is the best VIN decoding site I have found http://en.vindecoder.pl and indicates:

General Information
Vehicle specification
Other sites seem to indicate the following:
1. W = head office of the manufacturer, in this case Germany
2-3. DB = Damlier Benz is the manufacturer
4-6. 903 = model: Sprinter
7. 6 = Mercedes use this and place 8 to indicate weight &/or length; i.e. 6 metres as the Sprinter came in 3 lengths
8. 6
9. 2 = usually a check digit for cars but not for commercial vehicles. May indicate weight?
10. 2 = model year: i.e. 2002 (not the year of manufacture but the model)
OR for commercial vehicles like the Sprinter this indicates Right Hand Drive. (1 for left)
11. R = manufacturing plant, Supposedly in this case East London in South Africa BUT does not seem correct.
12-17. 772318 = serial number of car.

4WD
I found out today (27th March 2014) that it is a ZG3 which is the 4WD version.
Here is some info from "Altered State" on the sprinter forum:
ZG1 selectable & 4x4 rear diff lock .
ZG2 A.W.D.
ZG3 selectable 4x4 rear diff lock and reduction gear.
You can change the timing on speed control via the A63 control unit.
suitable ratio would have been 4.857 5.286.
There are three systems each offering it's own level of sophistication.
The first is selectable four wheel drive.
The second is selectable 4WD with low range.
And the third permanent 4WD.
ZG1 selectable four wheel drive system is one that puts it in a function that can be switched on-off Elctro-Hydraulically from the dash.
With the addition of ESP ABS the system is more sensitive.

Here is some info from http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w901-905-sprinter/1425954-312-4x4-advice-requi
These sprinters are made with 3 types pf transfer box ZG1-ZG2-ZG3
ZG1 selectaqble 4x4 & rear diff lock
ZG2 Awd
ZG3 Selectable 4x4 ,Rear diff lock & reduction Gear
When The button is Pressed The Yellow light illuminates, (This is known as the request)
Once the 4x4, Diff Lock Or Reduction gear is engaged The red Light illuminates (known as feedback)
You can also change in the A63 control unit
The tire sizes,
How long the option selected stays on after ignition switch off
The speed at which the rear diff automaticlly switches off
The speed at which the 4x4 disengages
Having built several of these 4x4s I have encountered just about every fault and options, and have all infomation, including Wiring diagrams,Pneumatics,Parts, and our own Diagnostic system (as used by the dealers )
So I think the previous thread should be revised and updated so as not to mislead
Also from this (http://www.fw-forum.de/f.php?m=341355) german fire wagon forum the transfer case is apparently made by Oberaigner
Hi!
The information is incorrect, since DaimlerChrysler is cooperating with Sprinter (T1, T1N, NCV3) and Vito and Viano (NCV2) with the company Oberaigner Homepage
The all-wheel Vito or Viano was a year in the two-bill business of retrofitted and now runs directly in Vitoria as a wheel off the line.
The Sprinter was initially also retrofitted Two bill business for 7 years and this also comes directly from the factory wheel variant Dusseldorf (in August 2006, but it's over). The company Oberaigner produces the transfer case and the complete front axle and delivers them in the works.
The wheel variant when NCV3 (Sprinter successor) also comes from the same house and the system was installed already with over 200 vehicles in the T1N (formerly Sprinter) and runs perfectly. Mechanical locks there at the factory solutions are no longer, this is done by electronically controlled braking interventions from 4ETS. The retrofit solution, there are both mechanical locks and reduction stage and the wheel is available in the variant shiftable front axle or permanent.
All upgrades, retrofits of the company Oberaigner have a safety declaration of DaimlerChrysler and thus no loss of warranty!
MfG Hubert Springer jun. This post is solely my personal opinion on the subject again!
