FINALLY OVER THE PASS FOR A 25KM CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT

Flight details:
P1140529-Piedrahita-24
We didn't take off until after 2pm as the cloud base was quite low with clouds rolling in. Not long after launch I was engulfed in cloud and as soon as I lost sight of the ground I was into big ears. This happened maybe 3 times a s clouds rolled in and disappeared. A couple of times i was about to turn in slight lift and when I looked behind there was thick cloud so I reconsidered. Although I did not have a lot of height I did keep finding lift to cross the pass via the ridge to the north of the quarry spine. I found good lift shortly after the pass but with each circle there was a small collapse so I moved on to the next ridge hoping for cleaner air. That was pretty much it. I radioed Steve and checked he recommended the river rather than the ridges to the north and he confirmed this. I headed out into the valley on glide but never found any lift and landed near the road in a recently plower field. It was a 55 minute flight although it was 10 minutes over an hour since I had first tried to launch.

Click on photo to enlarge: Note it says 24km to Piedrahita and the launch is up the mountain. My wing is against the wall of the bus shelter and I landed down the lane about 100m behind the bus shelter.

Evening flight
This was to be my last flight and as it happened it was the shortest of the whole week. I launched about 7:50pm and landed in my favourite town landing field at 8:30. There was very little thermic activity and it was therefore mostly soaring.
The breeze on landing was more from the west and so my landing was in the opposite direction to previously.
