I spent quite a while removing each section of cable and oiling it with CRC 5-56 (similar to WD40) and then wiping all oil off. Interestingly the rear sections were "Rohloff" twisted outer with a nylon or plastic sheath. The fromt cables were regular gear cable with longitudinal wire outer and no sheath around the cable (Jagwire branded).
